Lavinia Carraway

Managing attorney

Lavinia runs the clinic and takes the matters that need to go before a judge.

Lavinia grew up in Jackson, where her mother cleaned offices at night and her father drove a delivery route. She spent her early career at a small firm representing employees, and came to the clinic to build something where the fee wouldn’t decide who got a lawyer.

She leads the clinic, reviews every new check herself, and takes the cases that need a hearing or a trial.

How Lavinia works

Lavinia asks every new client the same thing: if this turned out as well as it could, what would that look like? Some people want their pay. Others want a clean reference, or for the behavior to stop. She builds the plan around the answer.

Outside the office she serves on the board of a neighborhood library and sings in her church choir.

The short check takes about three minutes, and a person reads every answer.
